May 28, 2025

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks in an expanded format with President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, who arrived in Kazakhstan to participate in the Astana International Forum.

The Kazakh President noted that since Paul Kagame’s last visit to Kazakhstan in 2015, both countries have made significant progress in bilateral relations, grounded in mutual respect and a shared vision for cooperation and sustainable development. He emphasized that Kazakhstan places great importance on expanding ties with African nations.

– Under your strong and wise leadership, Rwanda has become a model of institutional resilience and forward-looking innovation. Your economic growth, exceeding 8 percent, is an example of successful modernization. In this context, we highly value the development of cooperation with your country. Kazakhstan is ready to translate our aspirations into practical outcomes through the implementation of specific, mutually beneficial projects. I am confident that the agreements reached during your visit will elevate Kazakh-Rwandan relations to a new level, – said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

In response, Paul Kagame expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and commended Kazakhstan’s efforts to advance bilateral cooperation. He highlighted Rwanda’s recognition of the significant potential for strengthening partnership with Kazakhstan and its readiness to pursue joint initiatives that will foster prosperity for both nations and enhance dialogue.

– I am delighted to be back in Astana. Kazakhstan has achieved remarkable success in national development, earning recognition for its constructive stance on the global stage. We are pleased to be partners and friends with you and your country, – added the Rwandan President.

During the talks, the leaders identified several priority areas for further cooperation, including trade, investment, transport, agriculture, information technology, e-governance, and finance.

Following the negotiations, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and President Paul Kagame of Rwanda adopted a Joint Statement.
