Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the amnesty is a gesture of goodwill on the part of the state.
- This act of mercy, hope and forgiveness towards our compatriots will improve society. The amnesty covers vulnerable categories: underaged, pregnant women and women with children, the disabled, and the elderly, the President of Kazakhstan said.
The Head of State stressed that during the years of independence the amnesty had been declared 8 times.
- As expected, the amnesty will cover about 28 thousand citizens. This is an important humanistic action on the eve of the anniversary of our Independence, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
The President of Kazakhstan noted that 1,500 people would be released from prisons, and 80% of them on probation supervision.
- All of them are our citizens. We must give them the opportunity to get back on the road to reform and find their place in society. We all have to help them. I hope that the amnestied will not allow further law violations, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
The Head of the State also stated that during the years of independence a lot of work had been done in the country to humanize the law.
